ABOUT
"In Limerick a Festival ran,
To find Poets, for that was the plan.
It inspired some folks,
To write 'Limerick' jokes,
From Ireland all the way to Japan"
- Jack Jackson -
The 8th Limericks International Literary Festival will take place from August 21st - 23rd 2020. With humble beginnings the festival has grown into a hearty line-up of writing workshops, poetry workshops, competition and storytelling.
Supported by the Limerick Writers' Centre and Global Limerick the main aim of the festival is to make poetry (especially the Limerick verse) and creative writing accessible to the wider public, inviting people from around the world to participate in the Bring Your Limericks to Limerick competition.

Each year we invite the public to send us their original Limericks (full rules click: HERE) . The best Limerick is judged by a panel of experts and there is a first prize of €500, not bad for a 5 line poem.

The fun-packed weekend will include walking tours around medieval Limerick ruins, traditional Irish music sessions, slam poetry, writing workshops, art exhibitions and storytelling. The festival is designed to encourage participation and to promote Limerick as the home of this little famous five line poem.
